[Handel Centenary Commemoration held in Westminster Abbey.] Handel. May 29 Messiah.

George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) German-born composer 'Naturalised' as a British subject in 1726 whose works include the English oratorio Messiah and the orchestral Water Music. He is buried in Westminster Abbey. The Messiah is possibly one the most poplar works in the Western choral literature. It was composed in 1741, and premiered in Dublin in 1742. It didn't reach ists final state, and the most familiar version, until the performance to benefit the Foundling Hosptial in 1754.
