A bare-footed young girl sitting under a tree, hands together on her chest, staring to the right, after a painting in the Tate since 1847 (N00307). The Tate records that ''it is very probably identifiable with a work exhibited by Reynolds at the Royal Academy in 1785, and entitled simply 'a little girl''' and that Sir Robert Edgcumbe, a Victorian descendant of Reynolds, identified her as the artist's great-niece Theophila Gwatkin (1782-1844).

A scene after Benjamin West, depicting William III in the centre, leading his army on horseback as they surge onto the banks of the River Boyne, where, in the lower left corner, the Duke of Schomberg, mortally wounded, is carried by four soldiers. The Battle of the Boyne took place in 1690 between the Catholic James II and the Protestant William III across the River Boyne near the town of Drogheda on the east coast of Ireland, resulting in a victory fo William III.

James Brudenell, 5th Earl of Cardigan (1725-1811), the British politician and courtier. He served as Member of Parliament for Shaftesbury, Hastings, Great Bedwyn and Marlborough. He served as Deputy Cofferer of the Household, Master of the Robes to the Prince of Wales, George III, Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle, and Keeper of the Privy Purse.

A dramatic scene in which Dido, having stabbed herself, lies dying on a pyre while beside her Anna throws her arms up in horror and Iris cuts a lock of her hair. In the distance Aeneas's ships sail away. Said by Leslie to be a portrait of Miss Wateridge.

A family of travellers setting up camp at the edge of a copse, with a low tent in which a boy sleeps, two mules pasturing and a man and two women laying a fire and constructing a tripod from which to hang a pan. This was a pair to Morland's 'The Happy Cottagers', a painting also owned by Stuart.

Daniel Mendoza & Richard Humphreys. This Boxing Match took place at Doncaster Sep.r 29th 1790, on a Twenty four foot stage and was the third public contest between those two pugilists. It lasted for about an hour & five minutes & was decisive in favour of Mendoza.

Abraham Newland (1730-1807), the chief cashier at the Bank of England from 1782 to 1807. No bank note could be issued or could be claimed as genuine without his signature. He slept in the Bank itself for 25 years, so was largely a stranger to his own home adjoining Highbury Fields.
