A group of long-horned cattle; a group seated at the front, with two further cows, one drinking and one standing, in the stream behind. A further group of cows and a cottage can be seen in the distance. Frrom Thomas Sidney Cooper's (1803-1902) 'Groups of Cattle, Drawn from Nature', 1839. He was an English landscape painted noted for his images of cattle and farm animals.

One from a set of six ovals that depict the freshwater fish of England's rivers. Rarely found untrimmed in good condition. Henry Leonidas Rolfe [1823-1881] was devoted to the depiction of angling subjects and was, unsurprisingly, a keen fisherman himself. A portrait of Rolfe on a river bank with his catch is in the Government Art Collection. See: 5058
