Etching with very large margins, printed in sepia. 255 x 360mm (10 x 14¼"). Stitch holes in left margin, damp stains in top margin.
An Italianate landscape by Marco Ricci, one of eighteen dedicated to Joseph Smith (c.1682-1770), his patron. Smith, the British consul at Venice 1744-60, was a patron of artists, most notably Canaletto, and as a collector and connoisseur was a major draw on the British Grand Tour. His collection of drawings were bought for George III and form the nucleus of the Royal Collection of drawings in the Print Room at Windsor Castle.
