After retiring from a medical career specialising in tuberculosis, he dedicated himself to etching, gaining renown for his ability to draw directly onto a copper plate, reversing the image without mirrors. He exhibited at the Royal Academy regularly and became treasurer of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers.
