Part of the War of 1812 when the USS Enterprise chased HMS Boxer and they opened fire on each other, and in a closely fought, fierce and gallant action which took the lives of both commanding officers. Enterprise captured Boxer and took her into nearby Portland, Maine. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".

During the War of 1812, HMS Bonne Citoyenne ran aground and was damaged forcing her to dock into Salvador, Brazil, for repairs. Whilst she was in port, two American warships, the USS Constitution and USS Hornet arrived. Hornet send a challenge to Bonne Citoyenne, however Captain Greene declined the challenge, but stated that he stood ready to accept the opportunity should the circumstances be different. Constitution then left leaving Hornet alone, but the arrival of HMS Montagu finally forced Hornet to leave. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".

Probably the engagement between USS Hornet and HMS Cornwallis. The Hornet, which had mistaken the Cornwallis for a merchant ship was forced to throw boats, guns and other equipment overboard into order to escape, as they were heavily outgunned. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".

The USS President tried to break out of New York Harbour, but was intercepted by a British squadron of four frigates. HMS Endymion was a very fast ship and her Captain, Hope, attacked three times causing considerable loss aboard President. The Americans managed to retaliate but both ships were crippled after two hours of fighting. As a damaged pair they sailed in company to Bermuda. Official notification of the end of the war came soon afterwards. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".

During the War of 1812 near Madeira when the frigates USS United States, commanded by Stephen Decatur, and HMS Macedonian, under the command of John Surman Carden, engaged in naval action, The American vessel won the battle , and the Macedonian was captured and taken back to the United States, the first ever to be taken into an American harbour. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".

The single ship action between HMS Avon and USS Wasp, fought during the War of 1812. The Wasp forced the Avon to surrender, but she could not be taken as a prize, as other British brig-sloops appeared and prepared to engage. The Avon sank shortly after the battle. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".

The battle between HMS Reindeer and USS Wasp was one of the hardest-fought naval actions of the War of 1812. The Wasp forced the Reindeer to surrender after far more than half its crew, including Captain William Manners, were killed or wounded. The Reindeer was too badly damaged to be salvaged so the Americans set her on fire. From Bowen's "Naval Monument".
