Half length portrait of English lay Deist writer Thomas Chubb (1679–1747). He wears a white, chin-length wig, coat and neckerchief. He is seated in front of a book, open on a stand to right, holding a quill between hands folded on his chest, an ink-pot beside the stand and two books, one labelled 'Chubbs Tracts' on the other side.

Third son of George II. A life-long soldier, described by Horace Walpole as 'proud and unforgiving, fond of war for its own sake' [1721 - 1765]. His victory at Culloden in April 1746 ended the Jacobite threat, but his severe treatment of the rebels earned him the nickname of 'Butcher Cumberland'.

To the Worshipful Company of the Mistery of Goldsmiths in the City of London this plate is Humbly Dedicated by their most humble Servant G.Bockman. St. Dunstan was well-extracted, being related to King Athelston.

St. Dunstan (c.909-88), abbot of Glastonbury, bishop of Worcester, bishop of London, and archbishop of Canterbury, as well as serving as minister of state to several Saxon kings. A late C11th legend tells that the Devil tempted Dunstan disguised as a woman, but was caught by the nose with the tongs shown in this portrait.

Louisa, Queen of Denmark and Norway (1724-51) as a girl. The second daughter of George II, Louisa married Prince Frederick of Denmark and Norway, with whom she had five children, in 1743. Frederick became king following the death of his father in 1746 and it was hoped that Louisa would encourage Denmark to side with Britain against Prussia, although she was unable to influence her husband's policies. Louisa died following an operation on a hernia developed during childbirth in 1751. Engraving after a portrait by James Worsdale (c.1692-1767), portraitist and rake, whose success as an artist has been attributed mostly to his amusing conversation, conviviality, and clever singing and acting. He was involved in forming the Hell Fire Clubs in Dublin and Limerick, and had close associations with the stage in London and Dublin.

John Wilkes (1725-1797), politician and agitator. His imprisonment for libel and banishment from the House of Commons brought into question the validity of parliamentary elections. Arrested in 1763 for publishing an attack on the King's speech. His case became very popular causing violent public protests to the cry of "Wilkes and Liberty". He was finally permitted to take his seat in 1774 and was elected Lord Mayor of London the same year.
