Peint par Joseph Vernet en. 1755. Grave par J.J. Avril en. 1775. A Paris chex l'auteur rue de la huchette la porte cochere en face de la rue Zacharie. Copper engraving with small margins. Platemark: 590 x 440mm. (23¼ x 17¼"). Laid on 18th century sheet with hand-drawn border; damage to top corners. Coastal landscape during a storm, after Joseph Vernet (1714 - 1789), with shipwreck scene in the foreground; fishermen are trying to drag the wreck while others support a woman. An infant lies on a rock, lower left, while two figures are mourning over the body. Large mountains surrounded by clouds in the distance.
