Mehmed IV (1642-93) became Sultan of the Ottoman Empire aged six. More interested in hunting, he gave up most of his executive power to his Grand Vizier, a situation that was never reversed. During his reign the Ottomans suffered the catastrophic defeat against the Polish army under John III Sobieski (167496) at the Battle of Vienna in 1683.
