Prince George, Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904) seen playing with toy soldiers. He was a member of the British Royal Family, a male-line grandson of King George III. He was an army officer and served as commander-in-chief of the British Army from 1856 to 1895. He became Duke of Cambridge in 1850.

Victor-Marie Hugo (1802-1885) was an French poet, playwright, novelist, essayist, visual artist, stateman, human rights activist and exponent of the Romantic movement in France. Here Victor Hugo is seated with a collection of some of his greatest works surrounding him. On the floor to the bottom right are two volumes of his 1862 masterpiece: Les Misérables.
