Carolus II D.G. Angliae Scotiae Franciae & Hiberniae Rex, etc etc
P. Willemsen fecit London Printet for John Williams at the Crowne in St Pauls church yard 1669 Cum Privilegio Engraving, sheet 315 x 235mm (12½ x 9¼"). Trimmed; tipped into album sheet. Charles II (1630-1685), king of England, Scotland and Ireland, 1660 to 1685. Following the execution of his father Charles I, he was forced into exile but returned with the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660 (as alluded to be the vignette below his coat of arms, showing his triumphant return to London). One of few engravings by Peter Williamson (1662-80, fl.), engraver connected with the better-known David Loggan. The spelling of his name here suggests Dutch origins.
