A paddlesteamer, built in 1839 as a pleasure yacht for Thomas Assheton Smith, with engines by Robert Napier. In 1840 it was converted for passengers and served the Ardrossan-Liverpool route, a 13 hour journey, with departures coinciding with mail train arrivals from Glasgow and London. In 1847 it was sold out of the British register.

The Loss of the Pennsylvania New York Packet Ship; the Lockwoods Emigrant Ship; The Saint Andrew Packet Ship, and the Victoria from Charleston; near Liverpool, during the Hurricane on Monday & Tuesday Jan.y 7.th & 8.th 1839. Also the Ward from Saint Johns at Anchor;_the Victoria Steam Tug towing the Life Boat and the Mountaineer Steamer; with a view fo Leasowe Light House, & Bidston Hill. This Print is intended to represent the Vessels shortly after they struck on the Tuesday afternoon, from particulars given to the Artist by Captain Sprowle of the Lockwoods;_Capt.n Thompson of the Saint Andrew: and by Capt.n Candler of the Victoria.

This print is black-lined presumably in memory of the great loss of life. A report from the Liverpool Mercury on Friday the 11th of January stated that the Sunday past had seen strong gusts of wind, but many vessels went to sea as there was nothing to indicate that a huge storm was about to follow the winds…...The losses recorded at sea were damaging. Many ships were battered and wrecked at sea, as well as in the coastal ports. Many ships that were lost and damaged are named in the narrative, as well as giving lists for some of the seamen who were lost or rescued the day after the hurricane. All areas of the country suffered looses at sea, as well as casualties and fatalities in the ports.
