A rare view of Thankot in the west of Kathmandu District, Nepal, from Waldemar's "Zue Erinnerungen an De Reise des Prinzen Waldemar von Prusson Nach Indian in Den Jahren 1844-46". Prince Waldemar of Prussia (1817-1849) visited India and Nepal collecting botanic specimens. Travelling with Major Lawrence, the British Resident, with a train of four elephants, six ponies and a number of hill palaquins, he passed through Thankot on his way to Katmandu, where he was granted an audience with the Maharajah. This diary, published posthumously, is a rare work.
