Hippocrates (c.460 BC - c.380 BC), Greek physician, teacher, and 'father of medicine'. He searched for rational explanations to illness rather than religious or magical ones, founded a school in Cos and (allegedly) wrote an ethical oath that is still taken today by medical practitioners.
