A view of a sugar refinery on Java, Indonesia, from 'Java. naar schilderijen en teekeningen van A. Salm. Op steen gebracht door J.C. Greive'. Abraham Salm (1801-76) spent 29 years in Indonesia, working as a merchant and then a tobacco plantation owner. On his returned to Europe the publisher Franz Buffa commissioned Greive to lithograph twenty-four of Salm's paintings, publishing them in parts between 1865-72.
