A decpiction of David about to behead the giant Goliath. A story from the book of Samuel in the Old Testament in which the Isrealites, suffering in battle at the hands of the giant Philistine soldier Goliath, are saved by the young David who defeats the warrior using his sling and rocks taken from the river. From the series 'The Most Capital Paintings in England', Boydell's first major initiative as a pioneering publisher of fine engravings. Ex Collection Duke of Westminster.

A depiction of Jacob's fight with an angel described in the Book of Genesis. On his return to Canaan Jacob sent his four wives and eleven sons to cross the river while he stayed behind in contemplation with God. It was then that an angel appeared and the two wrestled all night until the angel seeing that he could not best Jacob blessed him and named him Isreal. Ex Collection Duke of Westminster.

A hooded figure reading a book in the foreground of this rocky, blustery landscape. William Kent (1685-1748), who is said to have Salvator Rosa's original painting in the title of the print, was an English painter, architect and landscape architect. He had a hand in the landscaping and interior design for Chiswick House, Hampton Court Palace and Devonshire House, and had a lasting impact on the history of interior design and estate layout.

Apollo and Neptune disguised themselves and helped Laomedon to built the city of Troy, as recounted in Homer's Iliad. The painting (now in the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, Glasgow) which Strange believed to be by Salvator Rosa, is currently unattributed.

A fertile landscape scene by a river, depicting Mercury, the standing figure, lulling the seated Argus to sleep with his flute, thus leaving the white cow, a transformation of the nymph Io, unguarded. Lettered beneath image, with a three line dedication by the engraver to Anselmo Belloni, professor of letters in Mantua.

Etching supposedly after Salvator Rosa, the Italian artist whose work, including vertiginous landscapes and genre paintings of banditti, was immensely popular in England in the 18th century. This is an unusual image which may be taken from a painting no longer attributed to Rosa. Engraved by Captain William Baillie (1723-1810). Baillie retired from the army in 1761 with the rank of Captain and thereafter devoted himself to printmaking and dealing. He specialised in imitating old-master drawings and prints, using a variety of printmaking techniques. Ex: collection of the Hon. C. Lennox-Boyd.
