Revenue Cutters have patrolled our coastline for more than 300 years. From the early days of sail up to the modern high speed diesels. Revenue Cutter Vigilant, always referred to as a Cutter and never a Yacht, was the fastest sailing vessel on the Solent in 1826. A boat such as this would have speed and agility on their side enabling chases in open water and in remote ports. In the foreground of this lithograph is a buoy imprinted with 'Margate'.
