Labourers, horses and a donkey are shown beside a large winching device and tall chimney. The area surrounding the village of Broseley, Shropshire, was central to the coal mining industry. Abraham Darby I (c 1678-1717) developed coke smelting in nearby Coalbrookdale, which revolutionised the production of iron, and helped start the Industrial Revolution. One of a series of six engravings of industry in the area published by the Boydells. After George Robertson (1747 - 1788).

The illegitimate nephew of Alderman Beckford, William inherited four such estates but squandered his wealth (for example employing Mozart as his son's piano teacher) and lost his holdings. He returned to London in 1776 and seems to have sold the paintings to Boydell for publishing. The John Carter Brown Library's exhibition, 'Aestheticizing the Landscape of Sugar', describes the engravings as 'the most aesthetically ambitious views of Jamaica published in the eighteenth century'.

Wanstead House, built in 1715 by Scottish architect Colen Campbell for Sir Richard Child, 3rd Baronet, was the first Palladian mansion built in England. After the notorious rake William Wellesley-Pole ruined the estate, the house's contents were sold at auction in 1825, after which the house demolished and the building materials salvaged also auctioned, raising only £10,000 of the reputed £360,000 cost of building. The surrounding grounds are now Wanstead Park and park’s historic monument, the grotto dated 1760's.
