Engraving of Guido Reni's famous Aurora fresco, in the Palazzo Rospigliosi-Pallavicini, Rome. The fresco depicts Apollo in his chariot, preceded by dawn (Aurora) bringing light to the world. Engraved by Captain William Baillie (1723-1810). Baillie retired from the army in 1761 with the rank of Captain and thereafter devoted himself to printmaking and dealing. He specialised in imitating old-master drawings and prints, using a variety of printmaking techniques.

From "The Most Capital Paintings in England", a large series of engravings in five volumes published by John Boydell who promoted the interests of both artists, engravers and patrons, which played an important part in developing print culture in the 18th century.

Allegorical scene in which Hymen, the god of marriage ceremonies, burns the arrows of Cupid, who stands bound and blindfolded. Musical instruments to right. Engraved by the Milan engraver Giuseppe Longhi (1766-1831) from a subject painted twice by the Mannerist painter Guido Reni (1575-1642). One canvas is now in Dijon (Musée des Beaux-Arts), and the darker copy in Genoa (Palazzo Spinola) is called Sacred and Profane Love.

Virgin and child after the painting by Guido Reni (1575-1642) in the Royal Collection (currently hanging in Hampton Court Palace). According to de Vesme, the painting was acquired by George III's librarian Richard Dalton in Bologna, and Dalton had the painting engraved by G. Gandolfi in 1770 before engaging the more esteemed Bartolozzi to retouch the plate. The Royal Collection, however, state that inventories record the painting as having been bought by George III himself.

A very fine copper engraving 405 x 430mm 17¾ x 17inches.
"The Most Capital Paintings in England" series of engravings in five volumes, late 1760s-1786, the first three (1769 to 1773) originally published under the title Sculptura Britannica. These were a critical and financial success for the publisher John Boydell who promoted the interests of both artists, engravers and Patrons establishing a tradition in Britain for collecting prints.

Pair of bust portraits engraved after pictures by Italian artists Guido Reni and Elisabetta Sirani. The intermediary draughtsman, Anna Louisa Lane (1778-1995, fl.) was probably the elder sister of the gem engraver William Lane, from whose address she exhibited miniatures.

A woman dressed in a loose gown and cloak around her right arm, her hair loose under a striped turban with a jewel at the centre of her forehead, sitting with her cheek against her right hand, the elbow resting on a cushion, reading a book propped open on her knee, with a curtain behind. The Persian Sibyl reading a book in her turban; the Sibyl was the prophetic priestess presiding over the Apollonian Oracle. The word Sibyl comes (via Latin) from the ancient Greek word sibylla, meaning prophetess. There were many Sibyls in the ancient world, but the Persian Sibyl is said to have foretold the exploits of Alexander of Macedon.

Venus sits as the Graces fasten a bracelet around her wrist, tie her sandal straps and place a tiara in her hair. Cupid leans on her thigh. From a collected edition of the engravings by Sir Robert Strange (1721-92) after famous paintings, in this case 'The Toilet of Venus', now in the National Gallery, attributed to Guido Reni and his studio.
