[Henry James Pidding.] Published by the Author, January 7th 1822. 6 scarce etchings, cut from 2? sheets. Framed, visible areas c.385 x 100mm (15¼ x 4"). Some toning, old ink mss. unexamined out of frames. 14 vignettes with skeletons acting out scenes from James Thomson's ''The Seasons'', but also with some references to Shakespeare. Subjects include cricket, duelling with swords, pelting skeletons in the stocks, shooting, riding, street sweeping and cooking lobsters. Henry James Pidding (1797 – 1864), RBA, was an English artist and engraver. His 'Pensioners outside the chapel at Greenwich (An Old Tar doing Penance for his devotion to Jolly Bacchus)' is held by the Royal Museums Greenwich. See Wellcome Collection 36651i.
