A snow-covered peak, apparently an invention of the artist, Balduin Möllhausen, as it resembles the view of Chimborazo by his hero Humboldt. Lieutenant Amiel W. Whipple, on whose 1853-4 expedition to plan an intercontinental railroad Möllhausen served, said that the only thing he painted accurately was a Navajo blanket.
