A scene from Ovid's 'Metamorphoses VIII'. Philemon and Baucis were saved from a deluge, and their home was transformed into a temple, of which they were the first priest and priestess. Their wish that they should die at the same time was granted, and they were transformed; Baucis into a linden tree, her husband into an oak, together entwined.
