HMAS Australia (I84/D84/C01), a heavy cruiser of the Royal Australian Navy, shown at anchor surrounded by yachts. After being damaged by kamikaze attacks in the Pacific she was sent for repairs at Portsmouth, where this scene was probably captured. A pupil of W.L Wyllie; Rowland Langmaid (1897-1956) served in the Royal Navy and attained the rank of Lt. Commander. He exhibited at the R.A.

Each ship is named below the image. By Rowland John Robb Langmaid R.A. (1897 - 1956). Born in Vancouver, Langmaid studied maritime art with William Lionel Wyllie and Langmaid was the official war artist to the Commander-in-Chief Mediterranean Fleet from 1941 to 1943.

A view of the Tower of London, with barges in the foreground on the River Thames. By Rowland Langmaid (1897-1956), the marine painter and etcher who studied under William Lionel Wylie. He joined the Royal Navy in 1910 went to sea at the beginning of the First World War, during which he made a series of sketches for landings. After the war he studied at the Royal Academy School and the Royal College of Art, and later returned to the Active List in 1939 in the rank of Lieutenant Commander and served as official Admiralty artist to the Commander-in-Chief Mediterranean Fleet from 1941 to 1943.
