Published March 15th 1816 by W. Lane, 29 Luke Street, St. James's. Soft-ground etching, very rare; sheet 580 x 380mm (22¾ x 15"). Trimmed to platemark. Bit messy in title area. Sir James Edward Smith (1759-1828), botanist. Smith bought Linnaeus' collection after Joseph Banks declined, and founded the Linnean society in 1788. Smith published many botanical works, including 'The English Flora' (1824-8) and did much to popularise the subject through his lectures and writings.
