A rare mezzotint. 470 x 350mm (18½ x 13¾"). Tear into inscription area, surface crack, glue stains in left margin.
A middle-aged dandy made an April Fool. He stands, waistcoat and trousers bulging, waiting in vain at a country turnstile while two young women, obviously the senders of the letter in his hand, peer over the wall. This print was advertised as 'newly published' by the Monthly Literary Advertiser May 1838.
