Half-length portrait of Sir Hugh Gough (1779-1869), in uniform and cloak. He served at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope, Peninsular War and First Opium War, before becoming Commander in Chief, India, in 1843. There he fought in the First and Second Anglo-Sikh wars.
