'The Pilgrim's Progress' is a Christian allegory written by John Bunyan, published in February, 1678. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of religious English literature, and has been translated into more than 200 languages. In this scene from the first part of the story, the Christain, the protagonist of the allegory, is directed towards the 'Wicket Gate' in the distance by the Evangelist, who points towards a shining light. The Evangelist holds a piece if paper inscribed, 'Fly from the Wrath to come'.
