The future George IV astride a fabulous stallion, in ceremonial hussar uniform with sabre unsheathed, published the year he was made regent for his father, George III. The plate is dedicated to his daughter Charlotte, who died following childbirth at the age of 21. CS 40; Frankau 129; ex collection of the Hon. Christopher Lennox-Boyd.

Charles Hague (1769-1821) was a British violinist and composer. He was appointed Professor of Music at Cambridge in 1799, which he held until his death. The Professorship of Music was founded in 1684 and is one of the oldest professorships at the University of Cambridge. NPG: D2553.

[Charles Mathews] Mr. Mathews. Portrait of Himself And as Representing Four Extraordinary Characters. That this Print may not be mistaken for a collection of subjects merely Theatrical, it has been deemed expedient to accompany it by a short explanation of its object. _ The characters introduced are all taken from the life. _ The principal figure is an Idiot amusing himself with a fly: _ The next o him a Drunken Ostler, (introduced in 'Killing no Murder'.) _ The third an extraordinary fat man whose manners and appearance suggested the idea of Mr. Wiggins, in the face of that name: _ And the last Fond Barney, a character well known on the York Race course. _ The intention of the Artist is to present a portrait of Mr. Mathews as Studying those characters for imitation, preserving at the same time his likeness, as varied in the representation of each.

Sir Robert Ker Porter (1777-1842), artist and diplomat, noted for his accounts of travels in Spain, Portugal and Russia, and his panoramic paintings. His 'Storming of Seringapatam', 120 feet (37 m) long was exhibited at the Lyceum, displayed as three-quarters of a circle, causing a sensation. He was knighted for his services to the diplomatic corps.
