Scarce etching with engraving, sheet 320 x 195mm (12½ x 7¾"). Trimmed within image losing part of the dedication. Cut and glued back together losing title and engraver's name. One horizontal crease.
A chimpanzee stands in landscape, holding a bowl. In the background a man shoots arrows at two chimpanzees climbing a palm tree on the left, with three more chimpanzees on the right. Bought by Capt. Flower of the "Speaker" from Angola to London.

Portrait of Giovanni Battista Gelli (1498-1563), Florentine man of letters, from an artisan background. Gelli was a shoemaker, and he used to publish dialogues. He is known for his works of the 1540s, Capricci del bottaio and La Circe, which are ethical and philosophical dialogues. He became a member of the Accademia degli Umidi on 25 December 1540.

An oval portrait of composer George Frideric Handel (1685-1759), engraved by Jacobus Houbraken (1698-1780) after Francis Kyte (d.1744). The ornate frame, which contains the title and a scene of Apollo and the Muses playing a concert, was designed by Hubert François Bourguignon Gravelot (1699-1773). This image was used as the frontispiece to ''Thirteen Celebrated Italian Duets, Accompanied with the Harpsicord or Organ, never before Printed, Composed by the late Mr Handel'', 1776.

An allegorical scene of a wedding, illustrating a text that calculates the benefits of matrimony to a married man, in response to a similar text showing the costs.

Engraving, sheet 445 x 350mm (17½ x 13¾"). Trimmed inside platemark; glued to backing sheet and folded. Scarce.
Pile driver for building over water, consisting of a floating platform on which horses turn a wheel which drives the pilse downwards. Later 18th century reissue by Carington Bowles, of a plate first published by its engraver, W.H. Toms, in 1748. At that time the construction on the first Westminster Bridge had been underway for nine years (and would not be completed for another two). It was probably published to capitalise on public interest in the project. For a related print demonstrating technology used to construct Westminster Bridge see ref.2555.
