Thomas Paine (1737-1809), author and revolutionary, sits on a paper inscribed 'Rights of Man', at a small writing-desk, left leg raised in excitement above a crown and a broken sceptre. Attributed to the pseudonymical 'Annabal Scratch', from the 'Attic Miscellany'. BM Satires 7900.
