Rare & scarce mezzotint. Sheet 350 x 240mm (13¾ x 9½"). L:aid down on sheet. Trimmed into plate, six large printer's creases.
A half length portrait of silver merchant Johann Wilhelm Dammann (1717-84), silver merchant of Augsburg, holding his design for a rococo tureen. It is unusual for a print with so many printer's creases (caused by the damp paper not being flat when put in the press) to survive quality control!

Heinrich Julius von Goldbeck (1733-1818), minister of justice and chancellor for Prussia. Three-quarter length portrait with allegorical figure of justice behind. Engraved (and partly painted) by Elisabeth Sintzenich (b.1778), daughter of Heinrich Sintzenich (1752-1812), an engraver who studied under Francesco Bartolozzi in London before becoming court engraver in Mannheim.

Johann Georg Palitzsch (1723-88), German astronomer who became famous spotting the return of Halley's Comet on Christmas Day, 1758, thus proving Halley's prediction of its course. His stepfather raised Palitzsch as a farmer, but he taught himself Latin and astronomy from the books he could afford. He inherited the farm at 21 and constructed his own botanical garden, library, laboratory, and museum. He left a library of 3518 books, including handwritten copies of scientific works too expensive for him to buy.
