Le Comte Walewski.
[n.d. after 1856] Engraving. 290 x 225mm (11½ x 9"), with 1pp French letterpress biography. Sheet laid on album paper. Horizontal crease through the centre. Minor toning. Half portrait of Alexandre Colonna-Walewski (1810-1868), right incline, right-gazing, seated and oval framed. Walewski was a politician and active diplomat for the Polish and French governing bodies. His poltical service sent him to places such as Buenos Aires and Florence. In 1855 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and later become France's Minister of State in 1860. It was rumoured, with recent convincing evidence, that Walewski was the illegitimate son of Napoleon by his mistress Countess Marie Walewska.
