Trimmed within plate. A view looking from Bournabashi Hill across the Plains of Troy towards Tenedos, published in Sir William Gell's 'Topography of Troy'. The hill is the site of 'Old' Troy. Byron wrote a couplet about Gell: 'Of Dardan tours let Dilettanti tell, / I leave topography to to classic Gell'. After visiting the area and learning that Gell had sketched the region in three days, Byron changed the second line to 'rapid Gell'. Abbey Travel 399.
