Princess Augusta Wilhelmina Louisa, Duchess of Cambridge (1797-1889), wife of Prince Adolphus Frederick, 1st Duke of Cambridge who is the subject of the miniture worn as a necklace by the sitter. By Maxim Gauci (1776 - 1854), printmaker, lithographer. Born in Malta, he settled in London in 1809, and was father of Paul Gauci and William Gauci.

George Gordon Noel Byron (1788-1824) was a British poet and a leading figure in the Romantic movement. He was celebrated in life for aristocratic excesses including huge debts, numerous love affairs, rumours of a scandalous incestuous liaison with his half-sister, and self-imposed exile. He travelled to fight against the Ottoman Empire in the Greek War of Independence, for which Greeks revere him aa a national hero. He died at 36 years old from a fever contracted while in Missolonghi, Greece.

A portrait of the Chinese Ladies who were exhibited in Pall Mall in 1827, they wore Chinese costume and were noted for having fingernails which were 2" long and for their bound feet.

The young princess Victoria leaving Devonport in the 'Emerald' yacht, as seen from Barnpool. The excursion was nearly a tragic one: when the yacht failed to stop in the Hamoaze stretch of the River Tamar (which flows past Devonport Dockyard) it was carried under a hulk, damaging the mainmast which fell onto the deck, only narrowly missing the princess. Lithograph by Paul Gauci, whose originally watercolour is in the Royal Collection as part of a scrapbook compiled by Victoria.

A portrait of the bust, created by David von Angers, 1837, of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755 - 1843). Hahnemann was a German physician, best known for creating a system of alternative medicine called homeopathy. Hahnemann was dissatisfied with the state of medicine in his time, and particularly objected to practices such as bloodletting, he began developing his new technique in 1792, and first published an article about the homeopathic approach in a German-language medical journal in 1796. Following a series of further essays, he published in 1810 "Organon of the Rational Art of Healing", the first systematic treatise and containing all his detailed instructions on the subject.

A view of Kimbolton Castle, in Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire, England. It was the final home of King Henry VIII's first wife, Catherine of Aragon. Originally a medieval castle but converted into a stately palace, it was the family seat of the Earls and Dukes of Manchester from 1615 until 1950. It now houses Kimbolton School.

A seated portrait of Robert Lemon Jr. (1779-1835), forward-gazing. Lemon was unanimously respected by his peers. A highlight of his career was his discovery of an untranslated theological work written in Latin by poet John Milton, which was translated into English at the command of George IV, who made a special copy to be presented to Lemon.

Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, at an altitude of 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) above sea level, and the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland. It is located in Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd. Not in Abbey Scenery.

Seven of thirteen plates from, 'Views of St. Helena; Illustrative of Its Scenery & Historical Associations. From Photographs By G.W. Melliss, Esq. Surveyor-General of the Island', published in 1857. In 1815, the British government selected the island of Saint Helena as the place of detention of Napoleon Bonaparte. He was taken to the island in October 1815, staying at the Briars pavilion (plate 4) on the grounds of the Balcombe family's home until his permanent home, Longwood House (plates 6, 7 and 8), was completed. He died there on 5th May 1821. During this period, Saint Helena remained in the East India Company’s possession, but the British government met additional costs arising from guarding Napoleon. The island was strongly garrisoned with British troops, and naval ships circled the island. Abbey Travel: 318: 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12.
