J. Carwarden pinxit. Guil: Faithorne sculp. [n.d., c.1659.] Rare engraving. Sheet size: 205 x 145mm (8 x 5¾). Trimmed to image. Glued to abum sheet at corners. A portrait of English musician and composer, Christopher Simpson (1602/1606 - 1669), nearly half length in an oval frame, wearing bands and gown. A coat of arms is inscribed below the image. The portrait was used as a frontispiece to Simpson's 'Division-violist, or, An introduction to the playing upon a ground' (London, 1659). Fagan. p.59. II of II.
