From 'The Poets’ Corner'. Rossetti, who appears sketching Fanny Cornforth at lower left, and continuing counter-clockwise, the figures are J. M. Whistler, A. C. Swinburne, Theodore Watts-Dunton, George Meredith, William Morris, William Bell Scott, William Holman Hunt, John Ruskin, and Fanny Cornforth, Rossetti's mistress and model; Sir Edward Burne Jones presents a flower to a kangaroo. The painter and poet D. G. Rossetti (1828–1882) actually did keep a menagerie of exotic animals, from peacocks to wombats, at his London house. Sir Henry Maximilian Beerbohm (1872–1956) was an English essayist, parodist and caricaturist under the signature Max.
