A visitor's keyplate for the exhibition of a 360º painting on the inside of the rotunda of Barker's Panorama, a purpose-built gallery in Leicester Street. Visitors would climb stairs to a viewing platform and use this as a guide to the painting. It was issued as a folding plate in a leaflet, 'Description of Lord Exmouth's attack upon Algiers : painted by Henry Aston Barker', written by James Jennings. The rotunda is preserved within the French Catholic 'Church of Notre Dame de France'.

Now known as 'The America's Cup', it is the oldest international sporting trophy.

Half-length portrait of Charles Asgill (1762-1823) in his dress uniform. Asgill found fame when, having being taken prisoner at the surrender at Yorktown, he was sentenced to death by George Washington in retaliation for the death of an American captain at Loyalist hands. Asgill's mother appealed to Louis XVI, who sent an ambassador who successfully requested a reprieve. Asgill later wrote a letter to an American newspaper detailing the treatment he received in captivity, including beatings by drunken revellers who had paid money to enter his cell.

Made for the Zoological Society of London, from animals in their vivarium, in the Regent's Park', issued in two parts, 1861 and 1867. Joseph Wolf (1820-99), a German artist, specialized in natural history illustration, and is considered one of the great pioneers of wildlife art, having depicted animals accurately in lifelike postures. He worked with John Gould on 'The Birds of Great Britain'. Sir Edwin Landseer considered him 'without exception, the best all-round animal artist who ever lived'.

The complete run of six plates illustrating the The Siege of Barcelona (14 September - 19 October 1705, during the War of the Spanish Succession, in which an Allied army, led by Charles Mordaunt, 3rd Earl of Peterborough (1658 - 1735), captured the city of Barcelona from its Franco-Spanish defenders. The plates were published as the first six in the 'Twelve of the most remarkable sieges' series; the other six were of named actions elsewhere in Europe (except for one plate of Louisbourg in Canada). Often booklets like this were done for the entertainment of officers serving abroad.

A scene showing the arrival of the VOC ambassasdors to Fulin, the Shunzhi Emperor (1638-61) in 1658. The ambassadors stand in the foreground with an ambassador from the Mogol Emperor, the emperor's guards lining the wall and a display of twelve snow-white horses on their route to the emperor's presence. The original view appeared in the account of the VOC's embassy to China (1655-7) by Johan Nieuhoff. From an edition of Astley's 'A New General Collection of Voyages and Travels'.

The sons of Nawab Sayyid Mansur Ali Khan (1830-84), the last Nawab of Bengal visited Europe with their father in the 1860s, where their signatures were collected. The names are written Mirza Mirza Syed Hassam Ali, Mirza Syed Hoosein Ali and Miiza Syed Mahommed Ali. When title of Nawab of Bengal was abolished in 1880 the eldest son, Sayyid Hassan Ali Mirza Bahadur (1846-1906, became the first Nawab of Murshidabad.

The binturong, despite being known as the bearcat, is neither a bear nor a cat, but a civit. A native of Indochina and Indonesia, it was first described by Sir Stamford Raffles in a 'Memoir of the Zoology of Sumatra; it is now a vulnerable species. From 'Zoological Sketches by Joseph Wolf. Made for the Zoological Society of London, from animals in their vivarium, in the Regent's Park', issued in two parts, 1861 and 1867. Joseph Wolf (1820-99), a German artist, specialized in natural history illustration, and is considered one of the great pioneers of wildlife art, having depicted animals accurately in lifelike postures. He worked with John Gould on 'The Birds of Great Britain'. Sir Edwin Landseer considered him 'without exception, the best all-round animal artist who ever lived'.
