The Verona Arena, one of the best preserved Roman amphitheatres. Built AD 30 it was capable of holding 30,000 spectatators. Although partially destroyed by an earthquake iin 1117, it was revived as a theatre during the Renaissance and in the C20th opera stars like Maria Callas performed there, as well as rock bands like The Who. The acoustics are still so good that many live performances are recorded there.
