The Pitons are two volcanic plugs, volcanic landforms created when lava hardens within a vent on an active volcano, and left exposed when the surrounding rock is eroded away. The Gros Piton is 771 metres high, and the Petit Piton is 743. Now a World Heritage Site. Published in Andrews's 'Sailing directions in the West Indies'.
