His Majesty's Discovery Ships Fury. Hecla.
London, n.d. [1823.]
Lithograph. 410 x 490mm. Some creasing and repairs to edges.
Fury and Hecla were paired on William Edward Parry's second and third voyages into the Canadian Arctic in search of the North West Passage, 1821-1823 & 1824-1825. This scene was drawn at the time of second voyage; on the third Fury was wrecked and abandoned. In 1827 Parry used Hecla on his attempt to reach the North Pole, reaching 82° 45’, a latitude record which lasted for nearly half a century.
