Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren [1753 - 1822]. Defeated a French invasion squadron under Admiral JBF Bompart off Tory Island off Donegal, capturing seven out of the ten enemy ships. The battle on 12th October 1798 effectively ended Napoleon's plans for an invasion of Ireland. Prov: Sir William Fowle Middleton Bart. bought Shrublands in 1788. His collection passed with marriage to 4th Lord de Saurmarez, in 1882.
