A view of the royal palace at St Germain en Laye, showing the huge complex of symetrical gardens which extends from the palace in patterns formed from pathways, parterres and fountains. Keys either side of the image identify and describe various buildings such as the large Jeu de Paume court and grottos. From 'Topographia Galliae...', 1655 published by scholar and publisher Martin Zeiller (1589-1661) who was approached by Martin Matthaus (1593- 1650) to write the text to accompany his volume of engraving.
