He is seated to left with crossed legs, smiling towards the viewer and holding a paper labelled 'A Plan for reconciling the difference between the Masters & Journeymen Bookbinders'. On the table beside him are books labelled 'Memoirs of Mr Pitt', 'Estimates of Bookbinders' and 'Anecdotes of Lord Nelson', as well as a letter addressed to 'Mr James Fraser Book Binder Frontier Court St Martin's Lane'.
