Run Neighbours Run. St Al---N's Is Quadrilling it.
Pub by T. McLean 26 Haymarket May 1829.
Fine hand-coloured etching. 260 x 275mm (14½ x 10¼"). Narrow top and bottom margins.
The Duchess of St. Albans, immensely fat, florid, and bejewelled, and a stout elderly naval officer wearing loose wide trousers, and apparently doing hornpipe steps, his hands on his hips, dance side by side with rollicking abandon. In 1827 William Beauclerk, 9th Duke of St Albans, married Harriot Mellon, widow of the banker Thomas Coutts. An extremely wealthy former actress, she was 23 years older than her husband, giving ammunition to the satirists.
BM Satires: 15936.
