[Funeral Procession of Lord Viscount Nelson, Jan.y 9th 1806.]
[Published & Sold Jan.y 12 1806 by Edwd Orme Engraver, Printseller to the King & Royal Family, 59, Bond Street, London.]
Coloured aquatint, sheet 270 x 395mm (10¾ x 15½"). Trimmed to image, losing all letters, tear in right edge.
Nelson's hearse in Ludgate Street, with St Paul's Cathedral behind. The design mimicked the 'Victory', with a figurehead and ship's stern. This example is apparently an early state: most examples have the shadows of spectators in the upper windows of Ludgate Street, all blank here. A plate from 'Orme's Graphic History of the Life, Exploits, and Death of Horation Nelson', published only three days after the funeral.
