The famous equestrian sculpture of Louis XIV by French Sculptor François Girardon (1628 - 1715), being manouvered on planks of wood and rollers by a figure on the right, as two others watch from behind. In 1699 Girardon completed the bronze statue of Louis XIV, erected by the town of Paris on the Place Louis le Grand. The statue was melted down during the French Revolution, and is now known only as a small bronze model (Louvre) finished by Girardon himself.
