A Londres chez l'Auteur Graveur de S.A.R. Frederic Prince de Galles, à la Tete d'or dans West-Street [c.1758]
Engraving, platemark 590 x 470mm (23¼ x 18½"). Folded as issued. Very large margins.
'The riding school': gathering around a post for training horses, with children playing. One of several good-quality engravings made in the early 18th century after Philips Wouvwerman (1619-68), Dutch painter specialising in horses, who was well represented in important collections during this period. Engraved by the English engraver Thomas Major, who had lived and worked in Paris during the 1740s. While published in London, this print was clearly intended to appeal to the French market.
