'Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, "Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me' (Mark 9:36-7). Two impressions of an engraving from Benjamin West's scene showing Christ holding a child as the emblem of heaven. Together with the finished engraving, published as an illustration to Thomas Macklin's Bible in 1800, is an unfinished proof which illuminates the process by which the print was made. The same painting (now in a private collection) was later engraved by Valentine Green.
