Lion in the Escutcheon, centre, flanked by two unicorns. Atop the imperial crown a lion holding sword and sceptre. Coat of Arms used by James V of Scotland (reading 'Jacobus Rex 5' above the heads of the unicorns). The coat of arms remained largely unchanged as used by the Kings of Scots from the 12th century until the Union of the Crowns under James VI & I of Scotland and England in 1603.
