Rustic interior of a tavern where men and women are smoking and breakfasting; a man in the right foreground with his back to the viewer, who reaches one arm around the waist of a standing woman; a woman sitting in a wicker chair to left, feeding a chair on her lap while a woman standing behind gestures towards her for the benefit of a man sitting to her left, holding a bowl our of the reach of another child, who reaches hungrily across his knee; a man on the steps to the door in the centre background, takes an apple from a woman who stands with an apron full in the doorway, reaching another to a man in the room, holding up his hat; a woman tending to a pot over the fire to left and cat lapping at a saucer in the centre foreground.
